A Night Out in El Puerto from Cádiz, Jerez or Seville: Getting There and Back

Updated:

From Cádiz, the last commuter train to El Puerto leaves at 22:32 and the last catamaran at 22:30 on weekdays (21:40 at weekends); on the way back, the first weekend trains leave El Puerto at 07:56 for Jerez and 08:00 for Cádiz. Between midnight and eight in the morning, a taxi is the only option. Timetables checked on 11 October 2026.

El Puerto is close: about 19 km by road from the centre of Cádiz and 13 km from Jerez. The problem isn't getting there, it's getting back, because the clubs close at 06:00 or 07:00 and there's no night bus or night ferry in autumn and winter. This guide covers both legs.

Summary: the best option depending on where you're coming from

Train times come from Renfe's own timetable search for the weekend of 16 to 18 October 2026; catamaran times from the Bahía de Cádiz Transport Consortium's winter timetable, valid since 21 September 2026. Check them again on the day: timetables change with the season.

From Cádiz: train, catamaran and bus

The C-1 commuter train is the latest way in: the last one leaves Cádiz at 22:32 and reaches El Puerto at 23:12, every day, and the journey takes about 40 minutes. From El Puerto station to Banana, on Ribera del Marisco, is a 14-minute walk (1 km) according to Google Maps. The catamaran is the nicest way: 30 minutes across the bay. In the winter timetable the last boat leaves Cádiz at 22:30 from Monday to Friday and at 21:40 on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. The direct M-040 bus stops much earlier: the last one leaves Cádiz at 18:30 on weekdays and 19:30 at weekends.

Coming back is the hard part. The last train from El Puerto to Cádiz leaves at 22:58, and on Saturday and Sunday the first one leaves at 08:00 (arriving at 08:40); on weekdays the first is at 05:55. The first weekend catamaran from El Puerto leaves at 10:00. So if you go clubbing, it's taxi, a long wait for the first train, or a bed in El Puerto.

From Jerez

Jerez is the easiest: the C-1 train takes 9 or 10 minutes to El Puerto, and the last one leaves Jerez at 22:48, arriving at 22:57. By car it's about 18 minutes (13 km) from the centre of Jerez to Ribera del Marisco. The way back works like Cádiz: the last train from El Puerto to Jerez is at 23:13, and at weekends the first one is at 07:56 (arriving at 08:06). Between the two, taxi.

From Seville

The train from Seville takes just over an hour to El Puerto. The catch is the way back: there's no train in the early hours, so a night out from Seville really means sleeping in El Puerto or driving with someone who isn't drinking. On the day we checked, Renfe's medium-distance search was down for maintenance, so look up the exact times on renfe.com before you book.

Getting back in the early hours: taxis

Taxis in El Puerto run on three urban fares approved by the Junta de Andalucía (BOJA, 16 January 2026). At night you'll be on fare II or III:

FareWhenFlag fallPer kmMinimum
IWeekdays 07:00 to 21:00€1.60€0.91€4.42
IIWeekdays 21:00 to 07:00; Sat, Sun and holidays all day€2.00€1.15€5.52
IIISaturdays and holidays 01:00 to 07:00; Fair, New Year's Eve and Carnival€2.31€1.32€6.35

There are supplements worth knowing: €1.31 for a trip to leisure venues in non-residential areas or to Puerto Sherry, €1.31 for a pickup at the train station, €1.31 per passenger from the fifth one (up to €2.62), €1.31 for a drop-off in Valdelagrana and €3.00 for a pickup at the Puerto Sherry rank. For Cádiz or Jerez there's no fixed price: the interurban fare applies, €0.82 per kilometre at night and at weekends, so the 19 km to the centre of Cádiz come to more than €15 in distance alone (our own calculation, before supplements).

  • Phone: the town hall lists Puerto Taxi on 956 85 85 84.
  • Ranks: Plaza de Isaac Peral, Plaza de España, the train station, Plaza de la Noria, Calle Valdés, Calle Palacios and Av. Santa María del Mar (Valdelagrana).
  • Seven-seaters: few. In 2025 the taxi drivers' association counted 3 seven-seat vehicles in town, with 4 more licensed. If you're a group of six or seven, book in advance.
  • At closing time on a Saturday everyone leaves at once. Agree on a meeting point and call before the music stops.

If you come by car: parking in the centre

The Centro car park on Plaza Isaac Peral, next to the town hall, is open 24 hours and is a five-minute walk (350 m) from Banana. The operator lists €2.25 per hour and €14.95 for 12 or 24 hours, without saying since when, so check at the entrance. And the obvious: if you're driving back, someone in the group doesn't drink.

Which club to choose depending on how you're getting home

  • Back by the last train (22:58 to Cádiz, 23:13 to Jerez): make it a tardeo. La Cristalera, a minute from Banana, opens Friday and Saturday from the afternoon.
  • Back by the first weekend train (07:56 or 08:00): clubs close at 06:00 or 07:00, so there's a gap of one to two hours. Doable if you're prepared for it.
  • Back by taxi: any club. Gold, Guateque and La Cristalera are all within a six-minute walk of Banana, which makes it easy to share a taxi from one point.
  • Sleeping in El Puerto: the easiest plan. Banana opens every day, and on Friday and Saturday everything is open except Padreo, which only opens in season.

In summer

Summer timetables are different, and in past seasons the catamaran ran extra services at weekends. We haven't been able to confirm the 2026 summer night services, so we'll update this guide when the Consortium publishes the 2027 summer timetable.
