Tardeo in El Puerto de Santa María Outside the Summer

Updated:

Tardeo, the afternoon party that starts while it's still light and runs into the evening, has been part of El Puerto de Santa María for years. For a long time its summer headquarters were in Puerto Sherry, with Playa Canalla, which Grupo BanBan calls one of the national references for tardeo, and Blu, its tardeo club for a younger crowd. Both have been closed since 6 July 2026. So where do you go now, in autumn, when the beach clubs are shut? This is the honest answer.

The short version

Outside the summer, tardeo in El Puerto revolves around the two Cristaleras, both from Grupo BanBan and both pub-clubs rather than nightclubs. La Cristalera, by the Guadalete in the centre, opens Fridays and Saturdays. La Cristalera Vistahermosa, in the Vistahermosa shopping centre, opens Thursday to Saturday. Both have live music this autumn. Neither publishes its opening times, so ask us before you go if you're planning around a specific hour.

La Cristalera: tardeo by the river

La Cristalera is where Grupo BanBan began in 2013, on Plaza de las Galeras Reales. The group describes it as having a large terrace over the Guadalete and being known for its tardeos and nights. Its bio calls it a “Pub by the river Guadalete” and says it opens on Fridays and Saturdays. The big news this season is music: on 29 September 2026 it announced that concerts were coming back, and on 7 October it confirmed it. A terrace on the river, a band and a drink in the late afternoon is about as good as autumn tardeo gets in El Puerto.

La Cristalera Vistahermosa: tardeo with a band

The second Cristalera opened in 2021 in Vistahermosa, at Av. Juan Melgarejo, 29. Grupo BanBan describes it as known for tardeos and spring and summer nights, with views over the Bay of Cádiz and live music at weekends. Its bio says Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and its post for October 2026 promised a month “loaded with music, tardeo, drinks”. The best example of its style was One More Song on 5 September: a band at 17:00 sharp, an eighties dress code, the party extending to Lupita and even dinner suggestions nearby.

What happened to the summer tardeo spots

Playa Canalla and Blu, the two big tardeo names in Puerto Sherry, closed on 6 July 2026 along with PhiPhi and Margarita, when their authorisation on port land wasn't extended. There's talk of a possible return in 2027, nothing confirmed. Puerto Chico, a BanBan terrace on Avenida de la Bajamar that also did tardeo, hasn't posted since September 2025, and its bio just says “see you soon”. If you're reading old guides that send you to any of these, they're out of date.

Summer tardeo versus autumn tardeo

The difference between seasons is big. In summer 2026, before and after the Puerto Sherry closure, the two Cristaleras opened every day: La Cristalera through July and La Cristalera Vistahermosa in August. Margarita, in Puerto Sherry, was still posting tardeo plans at the end of June. Now the rhythm is the weekend, and the plan is more compact: an afternoon on a Friday or Saturday, with a band if you're lucky, and then dinner or a club in the centre.

What doesn't change is the format. Both Cristaleras are pub-clubs: you don't need a nightclub ticket for a normal afternoon, you can come in a group of friends without planning much, and the music goes from a band or a DJ to a full dance floor as the evening goes on. If a special event needs a ticket, the venue says so on Instagram.

How to plan a tardeo in El Puerto

  • Choose by where you're staying. In the centre, La Cristalera; around Vistahermosa, La Cristalera VH.
  • Check if there's a concert. A band changes the plan: people arrive earlier and the good spots go first.
  • Eat nearby. For One More Song, La Cristalera VH itself suggested places like La Fenómena or Kamikaze, the group's Japanese restaurant in the area.
  • Bring ID. Neither venue publishes an age limit or dress code, but both reserve the right of admission.
  • Think about the second half. If the tardeo turns into a night, the clubs in the centre are close: Banana opens every day according to its bio, and Guateque and Gold open at weekends.

From tardeo to night

The good thing about El Puerto is that the centre is small. You can start the afternoon at La Cristalera by the river and, when it gets dark, walk to Banana on Ribera del Marisco, where Fridays are El Eskakeo, or to Guateque on Plaza Juan de la Cosa. From Vistahermosa it's a taxi ride. If you're in Jerez, Grupo BanBan also runs La Vega, on Plaza Esteve, which it describes as a tardeo and night venue with live music at weekends.
